Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) – Assists adults age 50 and older and their caregivers. General information and assistance for seniors and their caregivers, Medicare and Medicaid assistance, out-of-home care, senior transportation programs, and senior center locations are examples of services provided by AAAs. Medicare – You can talk with a customer service representative 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Call 800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227) (Say “agent” to get to a human). Call to:
- Obtain general Medicare information.
- Obtain information about Medicare Health Plan choices.
- Order Medicare publications.
National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) – NHPCO Hotline 800-658-8898 is a national is a national consumer engagement initiative to improve care at the end of life. Provides a variety of free resources on topics including:
- Advance care planning
- Caregiving
- Pain
- Financial issues
- Hospice and palliative care
- Grief and loss
National Parkinson Foundation – The NPF website contains a good number of resources that include publications, links to related sites, NPF Programs, local support groups and doctors. Call 800-327-4545.
Social Security Administration – You can use their automated telephone services to get recorded information and conduct some business 24 hours a day. If you cannot handle your business through their automated services, you can speak to a Social Security representative between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
