AARP Driver Safety Program

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) offers a nationwide program to help millions of drivers remain safe on the roads. They have offered this program for the past 27 years. It is offered in two four hour sessions. Instructors are local volunteers.
According to the AARP website, course topics include:
- negotiating busy intersections
- minimizing blind spots
- maintaining proper following distance
- the effects of medication on driving, and
- properly using safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes.
The course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older. However, it is open to drivers of all ages.

Our Metro Detroit readers can register for their local AARP Driver Safety Program through the Birmingham Commuinty House. It is a two day course that will be held on Monday May 4th and Wednesday, May 6th from 12:30 to 4:30. There is a $12 materials fee for AARP members (proof of membership required) and a $14 materials fee for non-members.
